On leaving school, Andy served his time as an electrician before joining the Royal Navy in 1991 for 8 years, as a weapons & radar operator and maintainer on Type 42 destroyers.  Serving in the Adriatic Sea during the Bosnia conflict and in the West Indies as part of joint UK/US counter drug operations, he conducted various roles from intelligence briefings to senior officers, to boarding and searching ships for contraband and weapons.

In 1998 he left the service to become a telecommunication and cable TV installer with ntl:, during which time he joined Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue as a retained firefighter in his home village of Binbrook, with 10 years’ experience as Crew Manager, six of those in overall charge of the station.

In 2001, Andy left ntl: to become an aviation firefighter at Humberside Airport, during which time he gained qualifications in teaching and education.  He managed and taught the cabin crew fire & smoke training for various airlines, teaching airline staff in how to deal with in-flight fires, as well as other various internal and external courses.  Andy also managed the station’s breathing apparatus maintenance programme and ladder testing schedule.

As one of the latest acquisitions to CATCH, Andy joined us in July 2020 as the Confined Space Technical Trainer.

He is also still a retained firefighter!
