We have an opportunity at our Grimsby LYOCELL Fibre manufacturing site for a Mechanical Team Leader.
Responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the Mechanical Engineering Technicians, this role will have a primary focus of optimising plant Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to maximise the safe production of fibre.

Key responsibilities of this role
 Manage a team of Mechanical Technicians in a fair and consistent way, including performance management and coordinating training requirements for the team.
 Ensure that all work is planned and executed in a safe and efficient way, with minimum possible impact on production.
 Act as a key contact between Engineering and Operations teams to ensure engineering activities are effectively organised and executed.
 Assist in prioritising, planning and executing weekly mechanical maintenance activities.
 Promote quality of work, continuous improvement and right first time culture across all maintenance activity.
 Identify and implement engineering solutions to improve plant availability and reduce costs.
 Ensure, Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) matters are appropriately managed across the team and actively support site SHE strategy.
Our ideal candidate
 Educated to HNC level or equivalent.
 An experienced Engineering Team Leader with proven track record and thorough understanding of process plant, equipment and engineering standards.
 Experience of leading and influencing a team, successfully implementing change and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
 Excellent interpersonal/communication skills at all levels.
 Excellent planning, organisational, training and teamwork skills.
 Excellent IT skills, with proficiency in MS Office, ERP/SAP experience would be a bonus.
 Strong health and safety awareness.

Job Purpose & Scope

An undergraduate placement opportunity providing technical support to the Engineering and Reliability Departments at South Humber Bank Power Station (SHB), the site is a 1365MW combined cycle gas fired power station (CCGT).

The role involves support to the site engineers and involvement is various engineering projects and the resolution of emergent issues as required.  The role supports safe, efficient, economic, and environmentally acceptable electricity production ensuring the continuing integrity and reliability of the plant.

This placement will be based at South Humber Bank Power Station and will report to the Engineering Manager. The role will be site based but may require travel to other EPUKI sites or supplier locations as necessary.

As a result of completing this placement, the successful candidate will gain a robust understanding of project development, management and delivery, safe and reliable operation, and maintenance of a CCGT and drivers impacting plant commercial viability.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Given the current environment in which the SHB plant operates, the Engineering and Reliability Teams are supporting several key projects aimed at improving the reliability, safety of operations, and address key technical issues that have arisen through flexible operation. The key focus of this role is to assist the site Engineers in the development and delivery of critical plant improvements at our SHB facility aimed at improving site reliability and safe operation.

Key deliverables require the graduate to:

  1. Support the development of outage plans and delivery of our ‘Campaign 3’ Major Outage on SHB Phase 2, a circa £30m project. Responsibility for the management and delivery of individual work packages.
  2. Assist in the installation and commissioning of a suite of Variable Speed drives on our site cooling water and condensate extraction pumps, this is a multi-disciplinary project giving exposure to Mechanical, Electrical and Controls workstreams.
  3. Assist in the installation of replacement air vacuum removal pumps across both Phase 1 and Phase 2 condenser auxiliary cooling systems.
  4. Assist in the review of site obsolescence plans and investment schemes including development of investment papers for submission for board approval.

By undertaking this placement, the successful candidate will gain robust experience in the following areas:

  • Major capital project development and delivery.
  • Engineering, Maintenance and Operations activities on a major Combined Cycle Gas Fired Power Station.
  • Gain an understanding of the commercial drivers and statutory compliance requirements impacting large scale thermal generation plants.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Plant maintenance and RCM techniques / principles.
  • Exposure to senior management through the provision of project status briefings.
  • Operational data analysis.
  • Exposure to rotating plant issues on Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine and Balance of Plant.
  • Management of inspection programmes and inspection techniques.
  • Working with contractors.
  • Technical Incident Investigations, Root Cause Analysis and Process Safety.

Qualifications

·      Undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with target grade of First or Upper Second-Class Honours or Masters Degree
